Fall ’10 – “Fall Internship- Intellectual Property” – Fox Filmed Entertainment; Los Angeles, CA

The Fox Group Legal Intellectual Property Department is the corporate legal department responsible for intellectual property registration, enforcement and litigation for all Fox companies worldwide. The intern will work in the IP department on various issues including IP claims and litigation, Internet enforcement, trademark prosecution, oppositions and cancellations, anti-counterfeiting and copyright and evidence of use research.

The objective of the internship would be to gain an understanding of the work of an in-house IP group. Specifically to gain a greater understanding of various IP issues including IP claims and litigation, Internet enforcement, trademark prosecution, oppositions and cancellations, anti-counterfeiting and copyright. Assignments will include drafting responses to PTO Official actions, drafting affidavits for opposition proceedings, researching potential claims asserted either by or against Fox.

Work in coordination with IC’s law firms, Morrison & Foerster and Latham & Watkins, is also a possibility. Candidates should be currently attending law school.

In this position, you will gain valuable exposure to the legal issues facing a high growth Internet business as well as learn about the transactional side of legal practice. You work will be important in helping SurveyMonkey to improve its risk management practices and to offer its customers a secure, compliant, and trustworthy platform for conducting analyses that drive informed decision-making.

Fall ’10 – “Internship- Content Protection” – Fox Entertainment; Los Angeles, CA

Twentieth Century Fox seeks J.D. and L.L.M. candidates for internship positions in its Content Protection group. Our department of attorneys and other legal professionals oversees the protection of Fox television (e.g. The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Glee) and film (e.g. Avatar; Date Night and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), content against the pervasive and ever-evolving threat of piracy. There is a particular emphasis on combating copyright infringement occurring in online environments such as user-generated content sites like YouTube or peer-to-peer networks. Interns will participate in the monitoring of and enforcement against such piracy, including conducting detailed copyright infringement and fair use analyses; identifying and researching litigation targets, and searching the internet for infringing copies of Fox content. Familiarity with basic principles of Copyright Law and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act is a plus.

Fall ’10 – “Student Intern – Legal” – Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland; Oakland, CA

The Student Intern – Legal will assist the General Counsel and Staff Attorney in general legal matters by conducting legal research; preparing initial drafts of contracts, pleadings, and policies; and indexing and creating data bases for legal documents and matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Proficiently and accurately complete all department functions as assigned including research, legal analysis, and writing regarding legal and risk management issues.
2. Review and analyze legal documents in light of applicable law and assist in making risk assessments.
3. As required, index leases and other legal documents.

Fall ’10 – “LAW STUDENT INTERNS” – County of Riverside, California; Riverside, CA

The Office of County Counsel is searching for Law Student Interns who have strong diplomacy and people skills. The successful intern will be working with Officers and County staff as part of the Code Enforcement team and will be assisting professional Attorneys with general litigation.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Preparing declarations and memoranda of points and authorities, compiling exhibits for inspection and seizure warrants for submission
- Preparing pleadings, including complaints, injunctions and summary judgement motions for injunctions and nuisance abatement cases

Summer ’11 – “2011 Summer Legal Internships” – National Resources Defense Council; Multiple Locations (CA, NY, IL)

NRDC is a leading nonprofit membership organization that has been marshaling science and the law to protect the environment and public health since 1970. Our more than 1.3 million members and activists reside in each of the United States and in the District of Columbia. NRDC employs over 350 scientists, lawyers, economists, media specialists, policy analysts, and administrators in its six offices, including a new office in China.

NRDC’s summer legal interns help write briefs, draft complaints, prepare legal analyses, obtain affidavits, investigate corporate and government malfeasance, participate in policy advocacy campaigns, and draft white papers and comments for submission to Congressional committees and administrative agencies.

Fall ’10 – “Trademark, Energy & Environmental Legal Internship” – Center for Resource Solutions; San Francisco, CA

Prior legal interns have helped to draft letters to the California Air Resources Board and filings to the California Public Utilities Commission, attended regulatory proceedings and industry conferences, written internal memos on sustainable forestry and biomass, observed contract negotiations, helped to index the organization’s intellectual property, presented to the organization on intellectual property fundamentals, and drafted a memo on copyright issues. Students/graduates with an interest in trademarks, contracts, renewable energy policy, consumer protection, and environmental policy are encouraged to apply.
