Spring ’11 – “Legal Intern” – Invisible Children; San Diego, CA

The individual in this position will be assisting with projects in various legal areas such as: Intellectual Property, Entertainment, Corporate and Employment Law. This position will consist of a sizable amount of research and writing, as well as drafting legal memos and reports. Work in coordination with IC’s law firms, Morrison & Foerster and Latham & Watkins, is also a possibility. Candidates should be currently attending law school.

Fall ’10 – “Community Law Project Intern – Cantonese/Mandarin Speaking” – Sanctuary for Families; New York CIty

Sanctuary for Families is New York’s largest nonprofit agency exclusively dedicated to serving the clinical, economic, legal, and shelter needs of domestic violence victims and their children. We offer a comprehensive, interconnected range of services including crisis and transitional shelter, individual and group counseling, legal services, housing and benefits assistance, a mentoring program, and a specialized program for children who have witnessed or experienced abuse.

Sanctuary for Families’ Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services is currently seeking an intelligent and highly motivated law student (JD or LLM) with a commitment to working with immigrant victims of domestic violence to assist in the Community Law Project.

Fall ’10 – “FALL 2010 LEGAL EXTERNSHIP POSITIONS” – Center for Gender and Refugee Studies; San Francisco, CA

The Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS), one of the nation’s leading refugee advocacy organizations, welcomes law student externs for the Fall 2010 semester.

Law student externs are involved in the full range of CGRS’s work, including research, analysis, and writing on key legal issues, appellate advocacy, international human rights projects, the preparation of expert witness affidavits, and national policy work.

Fall ’10 -”Immigration Intern” – U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI); Arlington, VA

USCRI’s National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children (NCRIC) was launched in March 2005 in order to recruit and train volunteer attorneys and match them with unaccompanied immigrant children who have been released from federal custody all over the US. The Center’s interns and volunteers play a pivotal role in every facet of the Center’s day-to-day activities. There are four positions available for this internship.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct telephonic intake interviews with children in their native tongue
• Orient children and their sponsors to the immigration court process
• Update the Center’s website by posting research
• Perform web-based research on country conditions
• Research important legal decisions related to immigrant children

Fall ’10 – “Intern” – Women’s Refugee Commission; Washington, DC

The Women’s Refugee Commission works to improve the lives and defend the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and adolescents. As an advocacy organization, the Women’s Refugee Commission is dedicated to bringing about systemic changes that lead to greater respect for the rights of uprooted women, children and adolescents. The Detention and Asylum Program works to protect the rights of women, children and families seeking protection in the United States. The organization strives to effect policy change with broad, worldwide impact.

SCOPE OF WORK: The Detention and Asylum Program (DAP) internship will be a full-time or part-time position based in the Women’s Refugee Commission’s Washington, D.C. office. The intern will provide administrative, programmatic and logistical support to the Detention and Asylum team. He or she will report to the Director of the Detention and Asylum Program.

Summer ’10 – “Contracted Legal Intern” – Department of Youth Services, Commonwealth of Massachusetts; Boston, MA

The DYS Legal Internship may include assisting DYS attorneys prepare projects, presentations, attend court hearings, attend depositions, attend meetings, gather information, conduct internal investigations, visit DYS facilities, participate in initiatives, review and comment on legislation, draft policies and regulations, and prepare or attend training programs.

The exact duties and experiences vary with each internship as the needs of the DYS General Counsel’s Office and DYS change from time to time.
