The Fair Housing Justice Center, Inc. ("FHJC") is a non-profit civil rights organization that serves New York City and the seven suburban counties of Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester. Our mission is to: 1) challenge systemic housing discrimination; 2) to promote policies that foster open and inclusive communities; and, 3) to strengthen the enforcement of local, state, and federal fair housing laws.

The Legal Fellow is responsible for coordination of the FHJC legal program and providing training and direct support to FHJC staff and cooperating attorneys. This is an ideal one-year opportunity for a recent graduate who has access to fellowship money or is participating in an associate deferral program. This is an unpaid position but depending on the applicant’s qualifications, a minimal compensation package may be considered.

- All 3rd party IP has been identified and properly licensed

Candidates should have solid academic credentials and strong research, analytical and writing skills. The successful candidate will provide legal research and support in adjudication water rights for the Honorable Bruce Loble and water masters. The successful candidate will provide extensive research, compile references on laws and decisions, draft legal memos on contested motions, provide case management and conduct scheduling conferences and other conferences as assigned by the judge. The clerk must have a JD. Experience or coursework in water or natural resource law is preferred but not required.

This is a one year Special A Term position beginning August 30, 2010 through June 30, 2011. The Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center (FIAC) is a public interest law firm dedicated to protecting and promoting the human rights of immigrants of all nationalities. FIAC is interested in sponsoring a highly-qualified law student entering his/her third year or a recent graduate to apply for a post-graduate Equal Justice Works or other fellowship to work with FIAC’s Detention and Immigration Units.

The fellowship may include: representing individuals detained at BTC in their immigration cases, gathering information about detainees’ arrests in order to develop potential areas of advocacy and/or litigation around racial profiling and unlawful detention, conducting Know Your Rights presentation for immigration detainees, and monitoring the treatment of immigrants at BTC.

New Mexico Appleseed is offering a two-year (second year contingent on funding) legal fellowship to a law school graduate and member of a bar. NM Appleseed seeks an applicant with advanced research, analytical, and writing abilities. The applicant must have the leadership skills to bring together parties with divergent interests, be a self-starter, and willing to do both the exciting policy work and the less exciting grunt work involved with a small nonprofit. Beginning in the fall of 2010, the New Mexico Appleseed Fellow would work to combat hunger in the state by becoming a knowledge expert on hunger policy.
