Southeast Louisiana Legal Services is a nonprofit civil legal aid program that represents low-income persons in Southeast Louisiana in landlord-tenant, federally subsidized housing, consumer, family, income security, employment, health care, tax, probate and education cases. We help the poor with individual and law reform cases and believe in a multi-faceted approach to advocacy for our clients. Since Katrina, we have handled many legal problems in emerging areas not traditionally handled by legal services programs, e.g., various land use matters.

Currently, we have 41 attorneys working at 4 offices in Greater New Orleans--, downtown New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Hammond and Covington. Our largest office is in New Orleans and has 25 attorneys who specialize by department, e.g., housing, consumer, family, etc. About half of our attorneys have more than 10 years experience--mostly in poverty or public interest law. We also have many recent law school graduates who have joined us since Hurricane Katrina, who were outstanding leaders in law school and are active in our local legal communities.
